Project Nero Update

Nero Is back on the lift. All the unecessary brackets and tabs have been removed. The tail section was shortened by 4". The rear swing arm was stretched 1.5" for a longer, lower stance.






GJ just sent an update as he is currently fabricating the new seat pan.

My car is famous...In France

My car isn't even done yet and already has magazine coverage. It pays to be in the right place at the right time. James was featured by a French magazine and my car happened to be there at the time. The car looks 100 times better now than it does when these pics were taken but oh well. It's still pretty cool.

Tired...

Went to the shop last night and sanded the table again and put yet another coat of gloss on. This has turned into a much longer project than I anticipated. When I put the vinyl down for the stencil it turns out that previous coats of gloss hadn't fully cured due to the cold temperatures and when I removed the vinyl it pulled up the clear...Curse! Normally I would take it all the way back down to bare wood and start over but it's just a table after all. I should be spending time building the actual motorcycle not the work table. So on we go and it is what it is at this point. It's not perfect but it will do the job.

I also spent about an hour and half straightening the radiator fins on the shoebox. This is one of the most tedious tasks ever. Staring closely at rows and rows and tiny fins for extended periods of time leads to tunnel vision and eventually hallucinations. I didn't take any pictures but both sides are now free of smashed and rock dented fins. I just have to clean and paint it and back in the car it goes. Detail detail detail.

Project Nero Update

The XS frame came back from sand blasting and GJ got straight to it and started cutting it up. The majority of the tabs and brackets will be scrapped to smooth the frame and make for a much cleaner look. The tail section was also cut off and moved forward about 4".

Here's the Suzuki back in black. Once I add the graphics it's going up on the auction block.








I attached the lower shelf to my table, sanded the top, sealed the plywood and brushed on the first coat of gloss poly. I also drilled the holes for the wheel chock which will be mounted once the top has been properly glossed over.

More DIY

I just downloaded a 3D modeling program and decided as my first task I would render the Motorcycle table I just built this weekend.

Shop Project - DIY Motorcycle Table

I decided that I wanted to build a table for the triumph build. We already have one proper motorcycle lift in the shop so I just decided to build a table platform to build my Triumph on.

My table is 92" Long, 26" wide and 30" tall with a storage shelf on the bottom. I took some measurements from the HF lift in the shop but didn't follow it exactly.

I used (2) 4x4x8 posts, (7) 2x4's and a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood, along with countless screws and several 5/16" lag screws. The supplies cost me roughly $70 and total build time was a little less than 5 hours.






















I also threw together this quick tire rack for more storage space.
