Fresh Paint

GJ dropped off my freshly painted wheels for the ford last night and I couldn't be happier. Way back when I started this overwhelming project I had the wheels powder coated in red. This was back when flat black cars with red wheels were just becoming the trend. That trend has moved on and so have my plans for the ford. So in keeping with the new direction and color scheme the wheels were expertly repainted gold. GJ did a fantastic job and his attention to detail never ceases to impress me. All I had to do was explain to him what I was looking for and he took care of the rest. The color he choose was spot on and I didn't even have to look at color chips. My new Firestone whitewalls will be here next week and then the new wheels and tires will finally come together.

Let the cutting begin...

So Saturday was a big day for me. I spent a few hours working on the Ford over at Lavery's shop and luckily my buddy Chris was there to provide some motivation. I got the rear window removed from the car and we got the gas tank out without too much trouble then the fun began. I have had plans to french the tail lights with some custom stainless steel bezels that I purchased from the HAMB, but didn't think I had the know how. Well Chris said let's go for it so go for it I did. It was a little nerve racking cutting into your own car for the first time. I just keep thinking what if I mess this up...am I going to ruin the whole car??

So I started by sanding the paint off the tail lights.


Next I actually cut out the opening to make room for the new bezels.


After a little clean up with a grinder it was time to place the new bezels. I had James hold it in place so I could take a good look and make sure they were level then Chris tack welded them into place.


While we were at it I decided to remove the pinch seam on the body where the rear quarter panel is attached to the body so I had to grind the seam down to expose the joint and weld it back together.


Chris finished welding the bezel in place and then I started sanding down the welds to smooth everything out.


Once Chris tacked the 2nd bezel in place I took over the welder and went to town securing it in place. I still have some smoothing to do and finish welding up the body seam but overall I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out and a great learning experience.

Rough Edit of 1st Glovers Garage Feature

This was the first little project I shot with video. This took place last summer and just never got around to putting the footage together. I used my brother's Canon GL2 which is pretty sweet but I had no idea how to use it. I have a much better idea of what I want to do next time so hopefully these features will improve with practice. I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 for the editing which is another steep learning curve. I was hoping since it was an Adobe product it would be a quick learn but the interface and tools are completly different from any of the other Adobe programs. I'm hoping to add 5 or 6 of these GloversGarage features over the next couple months.

Falcon Motorcycles

I came across this amazing Triumph bike built by Falcon Motorcycles earlier this week. The attention to detail on this classy bike is hard to beat. Falcon has a very clean asthetic which they liken to "the tailoring of a fine suit".

Practice practice practice

It's been a while since I've done any pinstriping practice so I finally broke out the brushes and here's the results. I'm still pretty rusty but I plan to start practicing on a more regular basis and hopefully by the end of the summer I'll be ready to actually lay down something permanent on one of the cars.

New Acquisition

With all of my brothers talk of fancy collectible art prints I caught the bug and picked up this lovely signed and numbered print from Adam Turman. It's an 18x24, 2 color screen print on fancy blue 100lb french cover paper. I hope to have it framed and displayed very soon.


Here's one that I purchased a while back from Dwayne Vance and is already framed. Dwayne is a super cool and talented guy. He's got some amazing illustration work. If I had the money I'd buy one of everything he's put out so far. I also purchased one of his first T-shirt designs and wear it proudly. I highly recommend checking out Future Elements.

Jesse James Workwear

Just stumbled across Jesse James Workwear. While I sit behind a desk all day, I do consider myself a weekend warrior and I do like the workwear asthetic quite a bit. There are a few items I would buy for sure. The photo campain is pretty cool. It's a lot like the way I would have shot it, which is probably why i like it.

A Little One Shot

I pinstriped these sunglasses for Tyson a good while back but never posted a pic of it. I'm still learning but I think they turned out pretty good considering. It was a very tricky task to stripe something so small as I'm used to flat pieces of glass but everyone has to start somewhere.

Iron Man...For Real

Bekah and I are not strangers to spending time at the hospital, we both have family members with health issues and we seem to be at one hospital or another every month or so. These visits have started discussions about health care and other medical issues. One of these topics has been around technology and prosthetics. While there have been advancements made with the use of new materials like Carbon Fiber, it does seem like things haven't changed much in my lifetime anyway. We have such an abundance of computer technology, robotics, space age materials but I haven't really seen anyone with a biomechanical limb or anything very advanced yet. Well why not?

There are plenty of comics and anime that have long projected a future of human/robot interaction, like
Neon Genisis, the Gundam series and we are all familar with the recent Iron Man movie where Tony Stark builds his own powered armored suit with all sorts of tech gadgets and super strength.



During my normal interweb rounds this morning I saw a reference to Cyberdyne's HAL, I remember seeing something about this a long time ago but started looking into it a little further. From an article I found it looks like they are currently building the production facilty and expect to be ready for production in Oct of this year.


Well a few more google searches and it turns out that a company right here in SLC is responsible for development of the XOS suit, which in my opinion is the closest thing to an actual Iron Man suit out there and from their posts it looks like that's exactly where it's headed pretty quick.



Obviously this is all being funded for military applications which I can understand since they have the funds and resources but at the same time this technology could do amazing things for people with disabilities. Everything from physical thereapy tools for post op or trauma patients, to biomechanical fingers, arms and legs to full body suits for paralysis patients who could once again be fully mobile and not constrained to a lame wheel chair. I could also see this for people suffering with MS or other degenerative diseases. These devices could restore and provide a much higher quality of life for these people. So I find it a bit backward that we are developing this for purposes of war which will only harm life instead of using it to restore life. Money rules all I guess but I just hope this starts trickling down quickly to the people who could really benefit from it.

I guess life imitates art and we are just brining robot wars to fruition but hopefully some people will benefit from this before the atmosphere get's scorched and we all have to live underground because the sentinel's will get us. Don't say I didn't warn you.

This video was also shot in Austin Texas which is funny because I've been researching Austin for the last few weeks and planning to visit there soon. Anyway its just a well done little video.

Coca-Cola

Coke should always be served from an actual glass container, preferably a glass bottle. Coke sweetened with cane sugar is far superior to the now standard fructose/corn syrup available most everywhere. You can find cane sugar bottled coke imported from Mexico at some Costco stores.

If you can't find coke in a bottle then fountain is next best choice. Resort to the aluminum can and plastic bottle varieties only as a last option. If you must go this route its best to transfer the beverage to a glass with a little ice. The coke must aerate properly and burn off a little of the C02 to achieve the best taste. Just thought you should know.

P.S. I talked to my cuz Chris who also told me that during Jewish passover you can find Kosher coke in many of the major cities. This Kosher cola is also made with cane sugar but it's listed as "Sucrose". If you see coke with a yellow cap grab some up if your lucky enough to find it in your city.

Custom Vans

It was Marco & Tristan's wedding on Friday and everyone in the wedding party was supposed to wear a different color of canvas Van's lace ups for the reception. GJ decided he wanted me to customize his pair while we were chilling before the reception. He wouldn't take no for answer and handed me the shoes and a silver paint marker. I don't like being put on the spot but this was a quick freehand for Niccoli Design. Apparently everyone at the wedding thought the shoes were great so if anyone has a pair of Van's laying around that needs some spicing up let me know and I'll be happy to customize your shoes as well.

This Guy Can Drive!

GJ showed me this video of Ken Block (founder of DC shoes) driving an STI in Japan. I knew that Ken was into rally racing but I had no idea he was this good of a driver. This is hands down some of the best driving I've ever seen.
